About Winn Dixie

Winn Dixie is an American supermarket chain based in Florida. The chain operates around five hundred stores and has a huge chunk of them in Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana. The company was founded around 1925 by William Milton Davis but only started going by the name Winn Dixie after purchasing the 117-store Dixie Home chain. By the early fifties, the company became the first industrial corporation based in Florida to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Although the company has been publicly traded since the fifties, it remained in control of the cooperation. Even when it skirted bankruptcy in 2005, the family still controlled about 35% of the company's stock. However, that control wasn't to last forever, as BI-LO Holdings, a supermarket chain based in Florida, purchased the company in 2011.

Despite the loss of the stabilizing ownership that the Davis family has given Winn-Dixie for over 67 years, it remains very dedicated to its core values: building a company with a strong connection to its community, and a focus on customer service. The company is well known for having a strong heritage, close ties with the community, and a traditional setup that makes everyone feel at home in their stores. Entering a Winn-Dixie store has always been like entering a home filled up with happiness and the company continues to preserve that identity, regardless of the change in management.
